Chevrolet Corvette
Vehicle Year: 1981
Summary
Overall this vehicle is in decent condition for a 43 year old vehicle and I would give it a general thumbs up. As is expected and as is common on classic vehicles there are cosmetic issues and mechanical issues present. EXTERIOR - Overall the vehicle is structurally sound and in good cosmetic condition. It has been repainted and it looks good from 20 feet but upon close inspection there are minor cosmetic blemishes such as dust particles and poor edge work around some of the panels as seen in the photos. I did not find any evidence of prior collision damage or major issues so it appears that the vehicle was just repainted, but not due to an accident. I found minimal surface rust on the undercarriage but nothing severe. None of the suspension components were rusted through. All of the floor and body panels are in good condition and there is no evidence of significant rust. If the vehicle spent most of its life in the north it was definitely garage kept and not driven in the snow. INTERIOR - The interior is in decent condition though it does show moderate wear and tear due to the age. The floor mats are slightly dirty and there is a tear in the right front carpet. The trim panels and seats have moderate wear and tear as would be expected but overall they are in decent condition and not damaged or severely worn. I found no abnormal odors such as mildew to indicate any kind of water damage or leaks, and no evidence of smoke odors to indicate that the prior owner was a smoker. The weather strips are aged and worn and the drivers weather strip is torn apart in some spots. The parking brake release button on the handle sticks in, but the mechanic at the shop was able to get it loose after which it was working normally, but the parking brake does hold normally when applied. MECHANICAL - the engine starts and idles smoothly, and it performed normally on the road test without any indications of hesitations or drivability issues. The transmission engaged gears and shifted normally on the road test. The steering and suspension both performed normally on the road test. The brake pedal is spongy, but they do stop the car. When braking, the vehicle pulls to the left indicating that the right front brake caliper is not applying. There was no noise from the differential on the road test. There are multiple fluid leaks as seen in the photos and outlined in the body of the report. The air conditioning is blowing cool but not cold and the AC compressor was making a moderate noise. ELECTRICAL - the engine cranks over and starts quickly. The starter sounded normal and there were no warning lights to indicate any charging issues. The power windows operated normally. The drivers power seat adjusted in every direction. The passenger power door lock actuator is lazy and does not move fully. There is an aftermarket radio installed, and it is functioning normally, and there are aftermarket speakers in the rear. The power antenna does not go up when the radio is turned on.
